I have been a janitor, mowed lawns for a living, was a bull rider, worked in casinos, and made Super Bowl spots with Samuel L. Jackson. I worked for Spike Lee. I was raised at Wieden+Kennedy during the Michael Jordan era. I stood on my roof, thirteen blocks from the World Trade Center and watched the second plane hit. I signed contracts with Mark Ruffalo, took Natalie Portman and her family to a powwow, worked with Lance Armstrong on the Tour de France, and worked in Dubai before the Burj Khalifa was built. I am just the worst speller. I have stood on the Polar ice cap and listened to ice crack below me a mile deep. I have a film on Netflix. I was invited to the White House by President Obama. I’ve been featured in Grazia Magazine, NBC’s Today Show, and The New York Times for making Valentines for my wife. I designed Lib Tech snowboards with pro snowboarder Travis Rice. I work with former gang members and incarcerated youth alongside Danny Trejo. I teach Indigenous economics. I had one of the best phone calls of my life with Robert Duvall. I was a photographer at a top-secret nuclear weapons laboratory. I have lectured and taught at the Università Iuav di Venezia in Italy. None of this makes much sense in a straight line because life has never been a straight line. As a child, I was caught in the middle of a gunfight between my foster father and another man. Before that, I was a baby left at an orphanage. Through all of it, I have tried to fill my life with beautiful stories. And I have come to fully realize that we are only in this beautiful mess for the blink of an eye. I am grateful for every single minute because, inevitably, today is someone’s last day on the planet. Maybe yours. Maybe mine.
I WORK WITH AND TEACH EMERGING MEDIA. I AM ALWAYS SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS THAT CAN ADAPT TRADITIONAL CONTENT INTO INNOVATIVE NEW COMMUNICATION TOOLS.

I’ve always been a huge fan of world-renowned professional snowboarder Travis Rice. I pitched the idea of creating a limited series of snowboards to Wyoming Tourism and Travis, and the rest is history. It was one of the most successful campaigns in Wyoming Tourism history. A big, snowy, icy check mark off the dream list.
I traveled from the village of Akiak on the Bering Sea to Cherokee in the mountains of North Carolina. I visited 120 Alaskan villages, reservations, and Native urban communities. I was able to work with the folks in Washington and let them know what the real concerns were in Indian Country. This campaign was featured in the New York Times.
I worked with The Oregonian on a complete rebrand and advised on its transition from a traditional newspaper to a digital-first publication. I also had the opportunity to collaborate with acclaimed designer Jonathan Barnbrook, known for his work with Damien Hirst and David Bowie, as well as his extraordinary work for Occupy London.
I am kinda famous for making Valentines. I set up a carousel in our yard, created a 30-foot paper flower bouquet, gathered Valentines from 80 countries, wrote her name in the stars, made a heart-shaped crop circle visible from space, gave her the city of Loving, New Mexico, and an entire chocolate factory, much like something out of Willy Wonka.
An amazing friend of mine asked me to help him with an art/rock show he was curating in LA called “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” It was a benefit for the Santa Monica Museum of Art featuring Raymond Pettibon, Sonic Youth, Daniel Johnston, Ron English, and Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers, with Shepard Fairey DJing. Somehow, I ended up driving Ron English around LA, and he later sent me one of his Obama prints. I also hung out with Flea, Matt Groening, and Slash. I still think the whole thing might have been a dream.
I was the lead creative, responsible for pitching, writing, developing, designing, and producing the BreckCreate campaign for the Town of Breckenridge. The campaign made an immediate impact, attracting more than 48,000 unique visitors, 170,000 page views, and 34,000 Facebook engagements in its first six months. More importantly, it helped establish BreckCreate as a cultural and economic force in Breckenridge, connecting the arts, local businesses, residents, and visitors in a new way.
I got to work with Tim and Eric from Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! to make a wonderfully bizarre campaign for Charter Cable. Structured as an unhinged, multi-layered “infomercial,” it mocked commercial tropes while still promoting Charter’s TV and internet bundles. John C. Reilly even came in and brainstormed with us. It was an early example of “bizarre marketing,” before mainstream brands fully embraced internet meme culture. Even though the campaign dramatically increased subscriptions, the spot was eventually pulled because cable executives thought it was too extreme. Ironically, it went on to generate more than 100,000 online views and incredible exposure for a relatively small cable company. Tim and Eric would later bring their wonderfully strange style to major campaigns for Old Spice with Terry Crews and Absolut Vodka. Great Job!
I wrote and produced an ad for Columbia Sportswear’s Insect Blocker campaign and even got to pitch the legendary Mother Boyle herself. I had always been a huge fan of Columbia’s classic Mother Boyle work, so getting to put Columbia on my client list was a dream. Insect Blocker was part of a major innovation push for the company during a period of impressive growth, with Columbia achieving a revenue growth of 16–18%.
My daughter asked for a catapult for her birthday. At first, I thought it was crazy, but then I wrote this spot and hired a group from Netflix Studios to build the catapult. I also really wanted to work with actor Shenoah Allen from the movie Sunlight. Voilà, birthday present. I got to work with Shenoah, my daughter got her catapult, and there were 79 fewer seatbelt-related traffic fatalities that year!
My grandmother in Wyoming always thought I painted signs for a living. When I did the Tour de France campaign with Lance Armstrong, she couldn’t figure out how I managed to paint all those enormous signs in Times Square.
I had always wanted to work on the Wyoming Tourism account, so I pitched it and won it. This was one of the first things I did for them. My grandmother loved it.
I had an amazing opportunity to work with one of my childhood heroes, Erik Estrada of CHiPs fame. We collaborated on a DWI campaign for the State of New Mexico while I was working with then-Governor Bill Richardson. At the time, New Mexico had one of the highest DWI rates in the country.
Through a mix of funny and serious work, Erik and I helped bring DWI-related deaths in New Mexico from 219 to 143—a 35% decrease. Bottom line: we helped save lives. And yes, that’s my daughter with Erik!
For a budget of around $80, I created, designed, and produced this image for Wyoming Libraries. We called it “Mud Flap Girl.” In a state with a population of 365,000, 85,000 people applied for new library cards. Over 16,000 blogs and counting. Rated the #1 interactive world library campaign. Featured on a current ABC television series.
For more than 25 years, every Valentine’s Day has become a chance for me to dream up something bigger, wilder, and more unexpected for my wife, Anne. Over the years, these over-the-top Valentines have attracted local, national, and international media attention, giving me a way to disrupt the negative stories often told about my underserved South Valley and replace them with stories of love, creativity, family, and community. This is what LOVE IN THE VALLEY is about.
